Alex Huanfa Cheng was born in rural Hubei, China, and now resides in Paris. Each return to China reveals the astounding speed of change. He aims to document this era's surreal landscapes and daily life, capturing the authentic character and particularity of ordinary people. From clothing to contradictions, his ongoing visual archive illuminates China's complexity. Inspired by writer Yuhua, he believes that true dignity emanates from within, rather than material wealth. His long-term project on Chinese graffiti in Wonderland serves as a metaphor for China's ambivalence, and it continues to evolve.
